Abstract

|
Ten cases of gunshot injuries to the face treated by the department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at C.A.F.G.H. are presented.
In general, management of gunshot wounds to the face has always consisted of primary care of the immediate, life endangering problem including airway, hemorrhage and shock with postponement of the basic repair.
Treatment of gunshot wounds to the face fall into 2 phases.
1) Primary treatment directed toward achieving healed tissue with minimum deformity.
2) Reconstructive treatment of residual bone and soft tissue defect.
We emphasize the initial surgical management of Type ¥² high velocity missile injury is consist of
1. control of hemorrhage
2. debridement of devitalized tissue
3. open reduction and internal fixation of fracture
4. delayed primary soft tissue repair.
